Try xpsmtp from www.sqldev.net. It isn't a seamless drop-in, but it is a
lot easier to handle than Outlook on a cluster node. It IS a very stable
component.

Greg Linwood wrote a series of articles on how to build an asynchronous
email system around xpsmtp. I would probably go with that if I needed
anything more sophisticated than what I built.
